Deer Culling-Bait -to -kill deer set up- was removed from Six Mile Creek location
The Issue
Our neighborhood borders on the City of Ithaca watershed above the 2nd dam reservoir on Six Mile Creek. On Feb. 1st the Town of Ithaca on very short notice set up a bait-to-kill deer site as part of their expanding deer cull at nine sites for the month of February and March. My wife and I are not hunters and either are our neighbors on both sides of us. We and others have enjoyed walking paths that loop through the field and woods. It has been an oasis and sanctuary place to observe plants, trees, birds, and deer. I am a photographer who loves taking photos of a deer family I have known since 2016 who live in this field and woods. The bait-to-kill site is literally on one of the pathways we usually walk every day. It has been very upsetting to have such a unethical set up in a space of peace and tranquility. I am very worried for the deer I know possibly being killed or maimed at this site by archers using crossbows-arrows to try to kill as many deer as possible in two months. I am asking for you to sign this petition appealing to the Town to remove this set up as soon as possible. It being placed here has been a very unwelcome invasion on our lives and in our neighborhood. Thank you for your caring. Tom Clausen
