Dedicate PS 92 Auditorium to Johnnie M. Mayo
The Issue
After decades of inspiring leadership and dedication, Mrs. Johnnie M. Mayo has left an indelible mark on the BUILD Community School and its students. She served as the principal of the BUILD Academy starting in 1970, and her influence was not only felt within the walls of the school but also echoed throughout the community. Her commitment to education and leadership played a critical role in shaping the future of many students, many of whom are now college graduates or on their way to becoming one.
The BUILD Community School, located at 340 Fougeron Street, Buffalo, NY, stands today as a beacon of learning and growth, thanks in part to Mrs. Mayo's foundational work. Naming the school auditorium after her is not just a symbolic gesture—it's an acknowledgment of her enduring contributions and a source of inspiration for future generations.
A community meeting will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 10:30 am and on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 5:30 pm, to discuss this proposal. These gatherings provide an opportunity for community members to express their support and share memories of Mrs. Mayo's impact on their lives and education.
We invite all residents, alumni, and supporters of BUILD Academy to attend these meetings to celebrate Mrs. Mayo’s legacy. Your voices and memories are crucial in making sure her contributions are etched in the history of the school and the community. Let's come together to honor a woman who has given so much to Buffalo's educational landscape.
