Cannabis (Marijuana) has been used throughout history and has many medical advantages, other than that its completely harmless. Cannabis does less harm that tobacco or alcohol. Here are some facts for you:
Unlike many abused drugs, an overdose of marijuana is not lethal, according to the National Cancer Institute.
Contrary to the popular belief, most marijuana users never use any other illicit drug.
Marijuana has not been shown to cause mental illness nor increase risk of cancer (contrary to cigarettes)
Marijuana use rates in the Netherlands are similar to those in the U.S. despite very different policies.
In laboratory studies, subjects under the influence of marijuana have no trouble remembering things they learned previously. However, they display diminished capacity to learn and recall new information. This diminishment only lasts for the duration of the intoxication. There is no convincing evidence that heavy long-term marijuana use permanently impairs memory or other cognitive functions
In driving studies, marijuana produces little or no car-handling impairment – consistently less than produced by low to moderate doses of alcohol and many legal medications. In contrast to alcohol, which tends to increase risky driving practices, marijuana tends to make subjects more cautious.
More than 800,000 people are arrested for marijuana each year, the vast majority of them for simple possession. It takes around $30,000 of YOUR tax dollars to support ONE prisoner. Lets not forget the strict laws in Florida where you can be arrested for 1 year for possessing 3g or less, or 5 years in prison for possessing 20g or less.
Now lets not forget all the health benefits Cannabis provides, it helps with depression, anxiety, lost appetite, several muscular pain, stress, it has been found it decreases the chances of lung cancer and brain tumors by half. And contrary to other drugs Cannabis is a completely natural leaf.
I am signing this petition because I am in favor of the decriminalization of recreational Cannabis in the state of Florida. The use of Cannabis needs to at least be discriminating. We are the voice of Florida and we want to be heard. We would like it for the subject of Cannabis decriminalization to be on the table during this Florida's congressional term.
