Hi petitioners & neighbors!

We have some positive developments to share with you in our quest to reduce the amount of prop planes circling Venice.

A group of us have spoken at Santa Monica Airport Commissions meetings, met with the Santa Monica Airport Noise Management Team, spoke at an EVNA meeting, and most recently spoke during public comments at the January 27th Santa Monica City Council Meeting. Our goal is to get the topic agendized at a Santa Monica City Council Meeting ASAP. We are proposing solutions which include having the prop planes fly over Santa Monica instead of Venice or at the very least, split the traffic between Venice and Santa Monica.

Additionally, we have been meeting with Traci Park's office, specifically Sean Silva and Juan Fregoso. Sean, the Venice field deputy for Traci Park's office, has brought the issue to Traci who wrote a letter of advocacy and support to the Santa Monica City Mayor and city council members on our behalf. As of writing this email, we have 896 signatures on our petition which is great but we would like to get to 2,000 signatures! Please reach out to a neighbor and share the petition with them. If we each add one person to the petition we will reach 2000 without much effort!! Below is a list of stats that help explain what we are experiencing on the ground.

Facts and Stats from the FAA re increase of prop planes flying over East Venice in 2025 versus 2024:

• Year To Date through Nov-2025, total Santa Monica Airport operations are up 38% Year Over Year which is almost 20,000 more take-offs and landings in 2025 vs. 2024 or 1,800 more per month - ALL of which are local flights circling East Venice!
•  The increase in total operations is entirely driven by local operations (small planes pattern flying over Venice) which are up 102%
• 10 out of the 11 months in 2025 have seen an increase in total operations 
  Santa Monica Airport (SMO) year to date!
• More flight schools & prop planes using SMO in 2025,resulting in a huge uptick in prop planes circling Venice - almost 20,000 more flights!
• October had 8,296 flights — 18% of the monthly average of LAX !
• Of those 8296 flights in October, 4887 (almost 5k) circled East Venice!!!

Thank you all so much for your efforts! Let's get Santa Monica Airport to reduce those flights over Venice!!
