Decrease Overwhelming Homework Load for Students at ANHS

The Issue

Students at ANHS are burdened with an excessive amount of homework that can lead to undue stress, lack of sleep, and potentially decreased performance in school. It is a widely recognized issue that too much homework can lead to negative health impacts. Specifically, according to Pope (Stanford researcher), more than 85% of students report they are overwhelmed by homework, with 33% actually indicating that school work made them feel unhappy. Furthermore, a 2006 Duke University study showed that excessive homework can lead to numerous health issues, including sleep deprivation, behavior problems, weight loss, and stomach problems. In light of these data, we urge the school administration to intervene, assess the workload being given to students, and come up with realistic, student-friendly policies that balance the homework load to promote a healthier learning environment. Your signature can make a big difference as we seek to optimize the academic success and wellbeing of all ANHS students. Please sign this petition today.
