The Trump administration has made it's mission to rollback Transgender and Queer person rights!  LGBTQ+ individuals will further face more  discrimination, violence, and legal threats that will jeopardize their safety and well-being. Without protections, many are forced into unsafe living situations, denied medical care, or pushed to leave their communities in search of refuge. If we do nothing, this crisis will only worsen, leaving countless people without support or security. Declaring and establishing Santa Rosa CA as a sanctuary city will ensure legal and social protections for LGBTQ+ residents, creating a safe space where they can live freely and without fear. With anti-LGBTQ+ policies rising across the country, the time to act is now—before more lives are put at risk.

The Trump administration is going after AB 1266 (The School Success and Opportunity Act) and related privacy protections under FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and the California Education Code.

Key Protections:

1. AB 1266 (2013) – This law ensures that trans students can participate in school activities and use facilities that align with their gender identity.

2. California Education Code § 220 & § 221.5 – Prohibits discrimination based on gender identity in schools.

3. Student Records & Privacy (CA Education Code § 49060-49079) – Schools cannot disclose a student’s transgender status to parents or others without the student’s consent unless legally required.
