Forty years ago, sitting in the back of a boring high school journalism class with my band mates (we sucked) and hearing the news from grief-stricken priests and nuns (Catholic high school) that John was shot in New York. I've never gotten over it.
That senseless killing traumatized the country in a way that should've but never led to any meaningful reform. And despite our current two-headed trauma of fascism and covid, gun violence has only gotten worse and worse.
The rise of the NRA-controlled GOP-Fascist party created something far more senseless than one disturbed shooter; it created a country wherein nobody in public is safe--not in school, not in church, not at a concert or a movie theater. Nowhere. This is terrorism, and the unholy NRA-GOP-hypocritical-evangelical alliance is responsible.
I honor John's memory with this quixotic petition that sadly has garnered only 2500 signatures over four years. I'd like to think that the guy who protested an immoral war by staying in bed would approve.
Love and peace to his family and mates.
And thanks to those who have signed, shared and supported this petition. Hoping against hope for reform in the next administration.
