Believe it or not, there are reasonable people who own guns and can't stand how the NRA represents them. One thing responsible gun owners dislike is the hasty arming of untrained people who think a gun will make them safer. The NRA and gun manufacturing lobby wants us all armed, even teachers, and this puts everyone at increased risk. This Violence Policy Organization paper provides some statistics to back this up.
