Declare Mahsa Amini Day in Washington State
The Issue
In September of 2022, the world was shocked when Mahsa Amini (also known as Jina Mahsa Amini), a 22-year-old Iranian girl, was arrested on the basis of inadequate head covering. The brutality she experienced at the hands of the morality police left her in a coma, and she tragically passed away two days later. Her unjust treatment became a catalyst for the first-ever female-led revolution, where women demanded nothing less than basic human rights and equality between all men and women.
We, the undersigned, request from the State of Washington to declare September 16th as Mahsa Amini Day - a day of empowerment and reflection, honoring her sacrifice and those of countless other women around the world.
This petition stands as a tribute to Mahsa's indomitable spirit and the countless women around the world who have suffered gender apartheid and have silently endured countless injustices. Mahsa Amini Day symbolizes hope and inspires generations to stand against adversity, fighting for their fundamental human rights and freedom. Let's unite to ensure no woman feels silenced or oppressed, honoring the dignity and rights of all.
We urge our great state of Washington representatives and citizens to sign this petition to declare Mahsa Amini Day and stand with the women fighting for their rights, not just in Washington State, but all over the world. Together, we can create a brighter and more equitable future for all.
