As the founder and president of Chelan Pride, a passionate Queer parent, and an engaged community activist, I wholeheartedly propose that Chelan take a historic step towards inclusivity by officially proclaiming June as Pride Month. Our community thrives on diversity, acceptance, and love, yet an official endorsement for Pride Month is still absent from our calendar. Recognizing June as Pride Month is not merely symbolic, it's a powerful statement of support and encouragement for the 2SLGBTQIA+ members in our community — many who call Chelan home.

Pride Month is celebrated worldwide to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, a turning point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. By declaring June as Pride Month, Chelan would join a movement that has swept across cities and towns internationally, celebrating the diversity and resilience of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. This proclamation would highlight our city's commitment to equality, affirming that Chelan is a welcoming and caring community for all.

This action is more than just words. It acknowledges the struggles many 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals face and fosters an environment of understanding and progress. It can improve the lives of those who may feel marginalized, giving hope and courage to our 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and elders alike. By embracing Pride Month, we promote kindness, acceptance, and love—principles that make Chelan such a cherished place to live.
