May 4, 2025

On 11 April 2025, Women For Change officially handed over our petition, signed by over 150,000 people, along with our memorandum to Deputy Minister Mmapaseka Steve Letsike MP from the Ministry of Women, Children and People with Disabilities.

The Deputy Minister signed the memorandum, formally acknowledging our urgent call to declare Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) a National Disaster. This marked a powerful and symbolic moment in our collective fight for justice and accountability.

We were promised an official response within 30 days, and as that deadline approaches, we are urgently awaiting to hear back from the government by the end of this coming week.

This milestone would not have been possible without the voices and support of every single person who signed, shared, and stood alongside us. Your action matters. But the fight is far from over; we will continue to raise our voices and demand change until real, systemic action is taken.
