Declare Election Day a Holiday to Boost Voter Turnout in Roswell, GA

The Issue

Democracy thrives when every citizen participates in the electoral process actively. Yet, in Roswell, GA, voter turnout consistently falls short of projections. Barriers such as work and school commitments hinder many from exercising their constitutional right to vote.

One potential solution is to designate Election Day as a public holiday. By doing so, we can alleviate some of the constraints that prevent citizens from voting, significantly increasing turnout rates. This idea isn't new: many nations, including France and Germany, honour election days as public holidays, which has led to increased voter turnout.

The US Census Bureau reports that 14% of nonvoters in the 2016 Elections cited "too busy or conflicting schedule" as the reason they couldn't vote. By making Election Day a holiday, we can reduce this percentage and strengthen our democracy.

We ask the Roswell City Council, in conjunction with the State of Georgia, to consider this petition. Increase citizen participation in our democracy by declaring Election Day a public holiday. Encourage every voice to be heard, and every vote to be counted. Please sign this petition to support this cause.
