Forest Department Can do it.
In relation to the proposed declaration of Mouje Karave Survey No. 266/Part, Area 18.50 hectares as DPS Lake Conservation Reserve under Section 36(A) of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, consultations were held with local residents to understand their views. Their opinions were gathered today at 12 pm time , and the details of the discussion are as follows:
Navi Mumbai is known as Flamingo City due to its role as a habitat for flamingos and other migratory birds. Mouje Karave, DPS Lake is part of Thane Creek, which is recognized as a Ramsar site and serves as a sanctuary for flamingos. During high tide, flamingos use nearby lakes in Navi Mumbai, including DPS Lake, as their habitat. Declaring DPS Lake as a Conservation Reserve would help preserve and protect these migratory birds' habitats and maintain Navi Mumbai's identity as Flamingo City.
Under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, areas critical for wildlife conservation can be designated as protected reserves. Section 36(A) provides for declaring areas adjacent to national parks or sanctuaries or connecting two protected regions as Conservation Reserves to safeguard flora and fauna habitats.
Local Residents' Opinions:
Residents expressed no objections to declaring DPS Lake as a Conservation Reserve.
They highlighted environmental benefits such as restoring flamingo habitats currently threatened due to blocked tidal water flow in DPS Lake. Designating the area would help conserve biodiversity and protect migratory bird habitats.
Lets save the DPS Flamingo Lake. Give your valuable support
