With weather forecasts showing an 85% chance of significant snowfall on Monday, December 1st plus the icy and rainy weather from Sunday, I am asking Forsyth County Schools to switch to an online learning day on Monday. This will help keep all students, staff, and families safe. Even a little snow or ice can make morning bus routes, student drivers’ commutes, and staff travel very dangerous. Forsyth County has many neighborhoods, hills, and back roads that are especially risky in winter weather. Waiting until the last minute to announce a closure could put thousands of people in danger. By announcing an online learning day early, the school system can give families time to prepare and avoid possible accidents during the morning commute.

 Students and teachers already have the digital tools they need to continue learning without interruption. This makes switching to online instruction the most responsible and effective choice. While Tuesday’s forecast also shows a risk of snowfall, Monday is the most immediate safety concern. Planning ahead shows we care about our community’s well-being.
