The Issue

The students and faculty of Blue Valley Southwest are facing potentially hazardous conditions due to severe weather. It is imperative that the administration takes immediate action to prioritize the safety and well-being of everyone involved.

Recently, the extreme weather has already resulted in numerous accidents involving students who are commuting to and from school. The current conditions are not just inconvenient but pose a significant risk to life and property. The roads are icy, visibility is poor, and essential travel has been significantly hindered. These conditions are beyond the control of students and their families, yet the expectation remains that they attend school on time and without exception.

Allowing a delay of just a few hours is insufficient to guarantee safety. It merely places a band-aid over a larger issue. The weather is unpredictable, and conditions can worsen unexpectedly. Therefore, it is both prudent and responsible for the School District to declare an official snow day for Blue Valley Southwest. This will provide ample time for road conditions to improve and ensure that our children are not unnecessarily placed in harm's way.

We urge the district authorities to consider the safety data, which highlights the increase in weather-related accidents among students. The cost of one day of missed education is negligible compared to the invaluable benefit of preserving human life and preventing potential tragedies.

Join us in calling for immediate action from the Blue Valley School District to officially declare a snow day tomorrow. Sign this petition to make your voice heard and to support the safety of our community.
