Hello,
Last Thursday, the European Parliament declared a “climate and environment emergency”. The motion was comfortably passed with a 429 to 225 majority. This move will increase pressure on not only the EU countries, but the whole world, to do better.
Please, can you share the petition to help stop Australia falling behind the rest of the world? We’re a climate joke, but no-one is laughing.
The EU motion urges the Commission “to ensure that all relevant legislative and budgetary proposals are fully aligned with the objective of limiting global warming to under 1.5 ℃.”
Australia, on the other hand is failing its leadership role in the Pacific. As the largest and richest country in the Pacific, it is our responsibility to lead the way to a safer, more sustainable future for all. As an island continent, prioritising climate action is necessary for our survival, for the future of our children and grandchildren.
Student activists across the nation are walking out of school, chanting “You’re burning our future,” to protest against climate inaction. 76 local council have declared climate emergency. Our federal government needs to step up and declare a national climate emergency.
Please, share the petition to stand united against the climate crisis.
