Our beautiful country is in a climate crisis, but the government continues to refuse to listen to experts or our cries for help. The bushfires that are raging across half the continent have emitted 250 million tonnes of CO2 - nearly half of Australia’s annual emissions.
Please, share the petition calling on the government to deal with the source of the problem - climate change.
The emissions from the fires are expected to have long-term impacts. Forests function as the store for carbon by absorbing CO2 and storing it in their branches and soil, meaning, these emissions are deadly for an Australia experiencing climate change.
Sydney is still shrouded in smoke from bushfires in NSW, Perth is suffering from a deadly heatwave and regional communities are scrambling to secure water supplies. Now is the time to talk about climate change and rally for climate action - but the PM is on holidays while the country burns.
Please, share the petition till all of Australia is calling on the federal government to take action.
As the year is coming to a close, I want to acknowledge all of you - nearly 150,000 of you - for coming together to campaign for a climate safe future for our children. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday break with your loved ones. We will continue our fight in the new year with renewed vigour.
