Declaration of National Emergency for Palmerston Highway in Far North Queensland

Nothing is being done to re-open our only heavy freight route up from the coast in the whole Far North Queensland region. As SEQ is being slammed with bad weather, our plight is being forgotten fast. The people of Far North Queensland are in a lot more trouble than the rest of the State and Australia realise. This petition is not about getting your money but getting your help to force all levels of government to declare a national emergency regarding the catastrophic damage and closure of our only major freight route (the Palmerston Highway) from the coast up to the FNQ Tablelands between Cooktown and Townsville.
So much agricultural and animal produce, plus minerals and materials come out of the FNQ Tablelands to the rest of Australia via the Palmerston Highway, and yet as of today we are looking at months for the bureaucrats to do anything about fixing the catastrophic closure of this highway.
The floods have been dreadful but the real pain is yet to come as this major road stays unfixed and unopened. The only open road is winding, narrow and unable to carry large trucks and means a long and arduous drive for all of us.
This is an area around the size of Victoria!!! WITH ONLY ONE OPEN ROAD!!!!! WITH NO OPEN FREIGHT ROUTE TO THE COAST!!!! The rest of Australia would not tolerate this and we need your help to raise awareness how much of a crisis we are facing here.
This petition asks for your support to call on all governments to declare a national emergency and to act immediately to open the Palmerston Highway ... in weeks not months. The combined goodwill of all politicians is needed to find a solution now. We have towns/communities that will literally go bankrupt over this closure. We have trucks literally at a standstill and when the trucks are in trouble, everything else you take for granted coming out of this part of the country is in trouble too!
All while politicians and bureaucrats go off for their annual Christmas breaks like nothing is happening. If there was ever a time that Australia agrees Far North Queensland matters it is now. Please add your support to this petition and circulate it everywhere you can.
