SAFETY FOR DOGS ON AIRPLANES

United Airlines just published a list of dog breeds which will not be allowed to travel in the cargo area and it won't be long before other airlines follow suit. This decision creates a very big problem for pet owners who must fly with pets who fall within the banned breeds and exceed the size requirement to travel in a carrier that fits under the seat. People moving long distances or even to another country would be faced with very painful decisions regarding their pets.
We are asking that a safe space be provided inside the cabin in designated flights for dogs who exceed the size requirement to travel in a carrier that fits under the seat.
Some suggestions would be removing the last row of seats and installing crates or removing two seats from the last row, installing a crate and allowing the owner to sit in the remainder seat, but there could be other options to create a safe space for the pet.
Too many dogs die every year traveling in unsafe areas and it is time to stop this by implementing changes that will allow our pets to travel safely. Many pet owners are willing to pay extra to ensure the safety of our pets who we consider part of our family.
This is particularly important to Brachycephelic breeds which due to the structure of their airways cannot regulate heat properly but in the end it would benefit all breeds and the owner won't have to go through the terrible process of not knowing how their pet is faring in the bowels of the airplane.
