Urging Decatur Police Department to charge the owner of these dogs for animal cruelty charges and get him prosecuted to fullest extent of the Law.

DECATUR, Alabama, United States

On a March 16, a concerned citizen of Decatur, AL made a social media post on the dogs living in horrific condition on a local property in City of Decatur, AL. There were believed to be 6 adult dogs, 3 puppies and one dead dog laying just few feet away from chained dogs. There was no appropriate shelter, food or water available for them. Few dogs were observed to be with infected wounds as well and requiring immediate medical care. Dogs were wet from rain, muddy and shivering from the cold. This case has created an incredible outrage in animal lovers and rescue groups throughout our country. We demand that the justice will be served for these dogs. Without proper punishment, these kinds of abuse will be continued in our community.

Although dogs have been removed from the owner’s property, there has been no charges filed against the owner for this horrific neglect of these animals. The owner also needs to be investigated for possible dog fighting connections. We request Authorities to charge owner for neglect and abuse and get him punished to fullest extent of the law. We also urge that he should not be ever allowed to own an animal or any sort in future.

As per the original poster, “A puppy chained with an embedded collar and completely swollen from infection, especially under the neck, covered in mud and shaking from being rained on. No shelter, no water or food. Only feet away in front of this pup is a dead dog decaying. About 10 dogs (including little puppies) on the property and animal control didn’t take them all and don’t know if they removed any. Laws here in Alabama for animals are an embarrassment. They suffer in silence! A cycle that will continue. This young dog is completely defeated. Can’t get an update on this pup from animal control and we won’t. This dog is completely defeated! “

As per WAFF news channel, “Animal control originally visited the home after receiving multiple tips from concerned community members on March 16. Officers with animal control said they instructed the animals’ owner to move them to safer space and two take two dogs, one injured, one dead, to a local veterinarian for further examination.

Decatur police say one dog died from anemia, possibly due to a parasitic infestation. The other dog was returned to the owner after receiving treatment. Many people found out the dogs were returned to the owner, including those with animal control.

During a follow up visit on March 19, the caregiver agreed to give up all rights to the nine animals. WAFF is told all of the surrendered animals will undergo a medical evaluation by a veterinarian.

This case remains under investigation. So far, Decatur police report there is no evidence to suggest any type of illegal dog fighting activity.”
