Reduce plastic wrapping at Decathlon

The Issue

Dear Decathlon,

My name is Alex, I am 9 years old, and I really want this world to be sustainable. I usually don’t like to write, but because this is a subject I am really passionate about I am willing to write a lot about this, with the help of my parents for the editing and the typing.

Overall, I think your company is the best for sports because it has a lot of different categories to choose from. This is good because I play a lot of sports myself. Your shop is better than most shops because the prices are more affordable.

When I did research for this message with the help of my mom I found a lot of good things about Decathlon. Decathlon already shows its commitment to sustainability with its eco-friendly blue bags, which is a great idea. You have a store that runs on solar power only in Singapore and 95% of your cotton is sustainable. These are brilliant ideas to reach the sustainable development goals, but I feel you could do more.

In particular, I think you can use less plastic wrapping. For example, my brother and I begged our mom get a golf club after being on a golf range once. She got us the kids' Inesis golf kit for us to share. I saw there was lots of plastic wrapping. There was a double layer of plastic wrapping and some in places that were not needed.

If you manage to use less plastic, you will have a huge impact on the environment. You could also use recyclable plastic or bio-degradable plastic. Though this may be hard and expensive in the short run it will be better in the long run. There are many more solutions that we can think of. So, what I am saying is: just use more eco-friendly plastic. I hope you can use less wrapping or more eco-friendly wrapping. I really hope you can listen to my idea.

Your products have been very useful for me and many other people. And because I and so many other people shop at your stores, any changes you will make will have a huge impact on the environment.

Thank you for reading this note and signing this petition.
