Demand that the School Board Meet with The Osceola Coalition for Change
The Issue
On June 5th, 2020, a tweet was posted by an alumna that acted as a call-to-action regarding the sexual misconduct at the Osceola County School for the Arts (OCSA). Almost 100 stories emerged overnight detailing the sexual abuse that students had endured from their peers throughout their time at OCSA, with some cases dating back as early as 2010. In light of the continued inaction on behalf of the School Board, The Osceola Coalition for Change has come together to demand systemic change for future and current students.
On August 17, 2020, we released a List of Demands for the Osceola County School Board to fulfill. (Read here.) The School Board mustered a lackluster reply and promptly ignored our request for a meeting to discuss our demands. Constituents who voiced their support were told via email that the issue was being forwarded to the School Board’s general counsel for “further review and investigation” after which, “any findings and recommendations” would be forwarded along. These are empty promises that will neither result in the appropriate, nor timely implementation of preventative measures.
Every day of silence is another story of abuse in the making. Help us make noise.
