Team in need for traveling grant to attend Hello Tomorrow Global Summit in Paris, France.
The Issue
The decision to double food adequacy and food quality in South Asia and Sub-Sahara Africa has resulted in a sweeping effort to transform farming methods and improve staple crops such as maize, wheat, and rice in order to help double food production and saved hundreds of millions of lives. Over application of pesticides with the hope of getting a results has consequent of resistant development in pest is increasing chronic disease and acute poisoning in the world.
WHO reports that 220,000 deaths of acute pesticide poisoning occur every year. The UN has also estimated an increase of 40% in pesticide application in Sub-Sahara Africa. This is estimated to cost Sub-Sahara Africa $90bn in illness caused by pesticide poisoning.
Tunnel Light Inc. is a team of biomedical Science graduates from The University of Cape Coast in Ghana. The team has come up with biodegradable, mammals nontoxic pesticide produced from a combination of three plant extracts. a prototype of the product has been tested on three backyard garden and there proven to increase crop yield for up to 40%. This concept was submitted into the Hello Tomorrow Global Challenge, 2016 and it has been shortlisted for pitching in the Hello Tomorrow's invite-only Global Summit in October. Meanwhile, the organization is not providing funding for travel and accommodation. It it has become difficult for the team to provide funding for the Summit because the recently graduate jobless team members have already spent close to $10,000 during the research phase of the concept.
the Tunnel Light Inc. team therefore would like organic food advocates, human welfare corporate institutions and individuals to help the team generate funding to attend the Summit. We believe even if the team does not win any award at the Summit, it can generate Venture Capital for the commencement of commercial production to turn the $90bn cost into wealth.
