As many of you know our industry in the state of Michigan has been labeled “non essential”. This is the time of the year that swimming pool companies start openings and construction. Pools get installed, swimming pools get opened up. For many this is a big spring clean up period. As a swimming pool professional we in backyards opening pools and starting construction. If you look up social distancing in the dictionary you will see a photo of a pool care professional.

Covid-19 can not survive in a properly maintained swimming pool. Further on that, last year we had a great threat of the Zika virus  (EEE).  Mosquitoes breed in poorly treated swimming pool water. Do you want that breeding ground in your backyard? Or your neighbors? 

How can the government let local hardware stores or big box stores sell swimming pool chemicals and we can not?  

By forcing us to stay home the governor is adding thousands more people to the unemployed list who could very easily still be working. Other states have governors who labeled swimming pool professionals as essential. In the state of Michigan if we get “caught” we are in jeopardy of losing our business license for over a year and a $500-$1000 fine. Many of us are self employed and do not file a 1099 or collect a paycheck. The government loan program does not apply to us. Like we have stated many times to our state representatives, we work in yards.........we do not interact with people.......we need this time of the season to prepare ourselves for the rest of the season.
