Hi All
forELK and other wildlife supporters showed up in numbers to the park's two public open house events this week. The events themselves felt like a big let down. There was no presentation, no real information given to the public. We expected this, and showed up with our own education and outreach team to make sure people attending the open house heard what is really at stake in this situation. The response was overall very appreciative!
People understand that we are in a climate emergency and need to change how things are done if we are to preserve wildlife for future generations. People understand that cattle grazing is detrimental to the environment and has no place in a National Park. People understand the importance of saving a species that not long ago was near extinct!
We need to keep the public pressure HIGH if we are going to get the park to change course. Currently their preferred alternative (despite the growing public outcry) is to hand over our public lands permanently to cattle ranchers, to allow them to expand their operations, and to cap the Tule Elk population size which means killing multiple elk per year.
What can you do?
