The Issue

As a mother, grandmother, and survivor, I am deeply frustrated by the lenient sentences given to predators who commit heinous acts against our children. Our justice system must do more to protect the innocent and send a clear message that child sexual abuse, trafficking, and torture will not be tolerated.

Every day, children across the nation live in fear, suffering at the hands of cruel and heartless individuals. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, approximately 800,000 children are reported missing each year in the United States, with many falling victims to trafficking and abuse. This statistic is a horrifying reminder of the critical need for stronger protective measures.

The damages of child abuse are irreversible, leaving victims with lifelong physical and emotional scars. This trauma is something no child should endure, and yet, it's a reality for far too many. Currently, the penalties for these crimes are often inadequate, failing to act as a proper deterrent.

I propose that our federal laws be amended to enforce life sentences up to the death penalty for those convicted of child sexual abuse, trafficking, and torture. This is not just about punishment but also about safeguarding society. A definitive stance against these crimes will deter potential offenders and ensure justice for the victims.

This change is not only necessary but urgent. By enforcing harsher penalties, we can send a message that the protection of our children is of utmost priority. Each day we delay is another day that a child may fall prey to abuse.

Please sign this petition to enact stricter laws and ensure that justice is served for our most vulnerable. Together, we can work towards a safer future for our children.
