We just finished the first edition of the #ReformIELTSPolicy Chat session with Oluyemisi Oladejo, winner of the 2022 TOEFL English Practitioner's Prize (The first African to win the award).

Oluyemisi was very down to earth during the conversation, and here are a few paraphrased quotes from the discussion hosted by the amazing Lateefa Musah

"I trained to be an IELTS facilitator because I always wondered why Nigerians speak good English but still fail IELTS"

"The IELTS is not a language test. It is embedded with a lot of technicality beyond English proficiency"

"We need to also advocate for our education system to be fixed back home in Nigeria"

"Yes, I agree with Nigeria's rating on the EF English Proficiency Index 2021 because from my 13-year teaching experience I believe Nigerians have a working knowledge of the English language"

"We need more voices on the campaign to help push it further"

"On a scale of 1-10, I rate the students I have had the cause to prepare for IELTS and TOEFL a 7 based on their performances"

We had some challenges with recording the full conversation but we were able to save a larger part of the session. The #ReformIELTS Chat Session would be held weekly moving forward and stay tuned to our Twitter for updates on next week's guest
