Oscar Academy has selected Narges Abyar as a member of this academy.

Regardless of the position of the Oscar Academy and its past decisions, it is vital for us to try and prevent the active members of the regime and their proxies from presenting themselves on international stages of art and culture. Narges Abyar is known as one of the close faces to the supreme leader of Iran and Iranian secret services (ministry of intelligence). She used to visit Ali Khamenei in hospital during his illness and has cooperated fully with the actions of the Iranian regime. Narges Abyar’s husband, Mohammad Hossein Ghassemi who is a film producer, has a close relationship with secret service agencies in Iran. Artists and filmmakers have long been suffering during the reign of the Iranian Islamic regime with their activities being censored and banned; and this decision supports the dictatorial acts of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The selection of Narges Abyar is equivalent to confirmation of censorship of all self-conscious and independent filmmakers, equivalent to validating the deprivation of iranian artists who have been in exile in their own country in poverty and silence only because they wouldn’t accept to cooperate with the regime. We, filmmakers, artists, and political activists have objection against this selection. We demand the Oscar Academy expel Narges Abyar from their list out of respect for the long list of victims of the Iranian regime and the rights of Iranian people.

به انتخاب نرگس آبیار در آکادمی اسکار اعتراض داریم. آکادمی اسکار از جمله نرگس آبیار را به عنوان عضو آکادمی خود انتخاب کرده‌است. مستقل از اینکه آکادمی اسکار چه جایگاهی دارد و تاکنون چه تصمیماتی گرفته‌است، برای ما اهمیت دارد که نگذاریم اعمال جمهوری اسلامی در خارج کشور و در صحنه بین المللی در مکانهای فرهنگی و هنری مورد توجه قرار‌گیرد. نرگس آبیار یکی از چهره‌های نزدیک به رهبر جمهوری اسلامی و وزارت اطلاعات شناخته می‌شود. وی بارها به ملاقات علی خامنه ایی در دوران نقاهتش رفته است و با عملکرد و نظام جمهوری اسلامی همراهی کرده است. محمدحسین قاسمی، همسر نرگس آبیار که تهیه کننده میباشد، رابطه نزدیکی با نهادهای امنیتی جمهوری اسلامی دارد. در جمهوری اسلامی سالهاست هنرمندان با حذف و سانسور توسط جمهورى اسلامى تحت فشار هستند و اين انتخاب اسكار، تاييد كننده و تاكيد كننده اعمال ديكتاتورى نظام جمهورى اسلامى است. انتخاب نرگس آبیار یعنی مهر تائید گذاشتن بر حذف و سانسور فیلم‌سازان مستقل و با وجدان. یعنی تائید محرومیت هنرمندان این مملکت که حاضر نشدند برای تولید ارتجاع هنری با نظام جمهوردی اسلامی همکاری کنند و در فقر و سکوت حذف شدند و از بین رفتند. ما فيلمسازان، هنرمندان و فعالين سیاسی به آکادمی اسکار به خاطر این انتخاب اعتراض داریم. از آنها دعوت میکنیم برای احترام به مبارزه مردم ایران، نرگس آبیار را از لیست اعضای آکادمی اسکار حذف کنند
