The National Health Bill (NHBill) is a new legislation that intends to set a framework for the strengthening of the health systems to better meet the needs of Nigerians.  The bill has been formulated to carter to the health needs of Nigerians, in order to secure a better Nigeria.

The bill addresses or provides for the following issues:

1. Creation of a national primary health fund by dedicating a percentage of the national consolidated revenue to health, focusing on primary health care development.

2. Expansion of the national health insurance scheme to cover more individuals and providing a broader range of health services.

5. Elimination of health care user fees for pregnant women and children under 5 years as a strategy to address the high rate of maternal and infant mortality

6. Improvement in emergency health services by mandating all health care establishment to compulsory provide services for emergency cases

6. Clarification of the roles of the National Council of Health and expansion of its membership to include other community level stakeholders

The bill in its entirety is a perfect way to address the health issues of individuals in Nigeria. However, the Nigerian Youth are particularly interested in the bill because of its benefits to the entire nation.

1. The provision of free health care services to pregnant women which also includes young women means that there will significant reductions in the current increasing maternal mortality rate.

2. The funds which are set aside for training health care personnel can be channeled into training healthcare personnel to provide youth friendly services.

3. The expansion of the national health insurance scheme to cover more individuals will mean more young people getting access to health services under the scheme.

4. The consolidated funds allocated to free primary health care will also be redistributed to create more youth friendly centers thereby improving access to youth friendly services.

These and many more are the reasons why young people are very interested in the bill. The young people of Nigeria will like for this bill to be passed so that our mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters can be beneficiaries of the many good things contained in the bill.
