The Issue

Dear Prime Minister,

Today's Attacks on our Army Camp was one of the many Terrorist Attacks which has been sponsored by Pakistan establishment. In recent times Pakistan has been viciously active in sponsering violence in state of Jammu and Kashmir. In all these years of patience shown by India we have not been able to win support or freindship from Pakistan and things have gone from bad to worse. You would sincerely appreciate the need to rethink our policy towards the terrorist state of Pakistan.

We would like to bring to your kind attention the subject of Indus Water Treaty which India have signed with Pakistan on 19th September 1960 with World bank as a co- signatory. As you would be aware that India has been very generous in granting a very scarce resource namely Water to Pakistan. To be on exact terms India has almost surrendered its rights on Mighty Rivers- Indus, Jhelum and Chenab which constitute 81% of Total Indus River System.  We are left with rest of 19% of fresh water with us. No where in the world has such generosity been shown by Upper Riparian state to lower. But despite all good hearted gestures we have not been able to get any freindly reciprocation from Pakistan.

Respected Sir, As a common indian citizen we appeal to our Supreme leader to please Withdraw India from this unequal treaty with such barbaric country. Since the treaty is bound to international conventions and laws, we might face some legal and financial costs but you would also appreciate that India is too well placed to bear any costs if it all it arises by the recall of this treaty. The following are some of the grounds which we can have strong basis of the Withdrawl of the treaty:

1. Unending and ever increasing terrorist activities sponsored by Pakistan and there commitment to increase it further and exhibiting an enemy country attitude towards India.

2. The state of Jammu and Kashmir has been the worst hit in the entire Indus Water Treaty. All the fresh water sources of Jammu and Kashmir has been gifted to Pakistan which had been grossly negative to all developmental projects of J&K. We have read that the Kashmiri Govt and it's people were also very critical of this unequal and unjustified Treaty. Recalling this treaty would might bring confidence to the people of J&K.

3. India under this treaty has been entitled to the use of the Rivers ( Indus, Jhelum and Chenab) for hydroelectric power projects under Run of the River design but Pakistan has been vehement in escalating the design of such dams in International courts and stalling our dams which is resulting into massive project escalations at our end.

4. Pakistan has been very careless while using the Indus waters it is allocated and most of the water is been flown into Arabian Sea while India, land of 1.3 billion is fighting water wars within our states.

5. The treaty was signed before the era of Global Warming, so the implications of this global phenomena also needs to be researched before we honour this treaty.

6. No where in the world we have such generous and unequal treaty between Upper and lower riparian state. China has not entered into such water sharing agreements with its neighbours.

PM Sir, The Indian Govt of 1960 might have signed this treaty to ensure peace with Pakistan but the same elusive peace has not reached India which continues to blead by paying with innocent lives of common citizens and Our Armed forces.

You would be require for building consensus with different political parties but as common citizen I'm confident that you would be getting 100% support from them.

Yours Truly,
