The Issue

The Virginia State Board of Community Colleges usurped their duties as they pressured the Thomas Nelson Community Colleges local advisory board to change the college's classic name due to "lack of inclusivity." This, they had no right to do under Code of Virginia » § 23.1-2904. State Board; duties. Even if you believe the college's name should change, shouldn't you be given a voice? The current student body, alumni, graduates, and thousands of citizens in the historic triangle were completely disregarded during the renaming process. We seek to let the people decide on the name, not a committee of 15 Democrat appointees in Richmond.

Dear Glenn: On behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia, who elected you to "Roll-Back" the dangerous and wrong ideas commonly called "Critical Race Theory," we offer our sincere petition: We ask you to allow the people of Virginia to decide renaming Thomas Nelson Community College. We call on you and your newly appointed Community College State Board to ask the Citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia and, in particular, the Citizens of the Historic Triangle (Yorktown, Jamestown, and Williamsburg) as well as those living on Peninsula in Hampton Roads; current students, alumni and graduates their opinion regarding renaming Thomas Nelson Community College.
