Amber Bytheway started this petition to Deal Town Council

The Astor Community Theatre in Deal, Kent is currently under the very real and urgent threat of closure. There is currently 'no urgency' from the Deal Town Council to save our beloved theatre and music venue.

James Tillitt, who refurbished the theatre in 2009 and reopened it in 2010, said it is 'inconceivable' that Deal Town Council wouldn't contribute to the Astor's survival given the extraordinary success and community support the theatre has. The Astor Theatre was meant to be celebrating its' 75th year since the Astor family gave the building to the people of Deal.

At present, he applied in March for money from the Emergency Grant Aid scheme but was told individual grants were worth £2,000 - significantly less than the theatre needs in order to stay afloat. He asked them to consider giving a large sum like they did in 2009 to help pay for the renovation, but where requests for discretionary funding are beyond the town clerk's powers to decide, it must be debated by the full council in public when it meets on July 28.

Please sign so we can put pressure on the council to save our venue and provide us with an adequate Emergency Grant that can save our beautiful theatre from closure. Without swift action, we may have little left for our community.
