The impacted people will be all people who hope for a better future. The future shown by Star Trek and loved around the world by people of every single nation, rich or poor, young or old, white, black, red, blue, green, purple.

The reason I am writing this petition is that Star Trek Picard is a pro-racism, pro-xenophobia, pro-hate television series, with the A-500s and other examples of synthetic life (collectively known as "synth") being fully sentient. They are kept in chains and treated very poorly while being used to construct engine components that need to be built by hand.

The showrunners have made an excuse that "oh the synth are only simple AI in an android body". I call BULLSHIT on that. They are able to use tools such as welders, grinders, hammers, saws, laser cutters and more, all made by humans for humans. They were also able to adapt the tools they were given to use as weapons in their rebellion. These are the same exact criteria for sentient life given by The Next Generation's episodes as evidence of sentience from just a few short in-universe years prior.

They cannot deny that the Synth are sentient as saying such, is implying that Star Trek fans are stupid!

You can't just throw ChatGPT (example simple AI) into an android and expect it to use such tools or do such things, let alone walk upright! It takes many thousands of calculations to be able to do that! Just look at what the robot dogs built by Boston Dynamics can and can't do, for example. They can walk on four legs, sure, but upright? Hell no. Can they use, adjust and adapt complex tools made for man? Hell no!

So, despite the showrunners' excuses which anyone with a brain can see through, the A-500 androids seen in season one are not simple AI. They are as sentient as the Geth of Mass Effect, or the Forerunners of HALO, as Data the Soong-type Android, as the various Exocomps, or as the Emergency Medical Hologram known as The Doctor.

Additionally, in S1 and S2, all Synth including the beloved characters of Data and The Doctor, along with the entire species of sentient robots known as Exocomps, had to be disassembled or otherwise destroyed against their will. That is mass murder and genocide, sanctioned by the Federation! This was in direct opposition to their directive to "seek out new life and new civilizations"!

Furthermore, protection and equality for sentient life, whether synthetic or fleshy, naturally intelligent or artificially intelligent, have been baked into the Federation and Starfleet since the days of its' very beginning. Both canonically with the United Earth Government of Star Trek Enterprise, and out of canon with Star Trek The Original Series, the entire Star Trek franchise has been about the virtues of equality among different species.

As for why the time to act is now, we need to act before Star Trek Picard can gain a wider following and becomes an icon that shows the way to the future as most other Star Trek shows have done. Star Trek is supposed to be a beacon of hope and light, pointing towards a bright and sunny future, and if people see that it suddenly starts being pro-slavery, pro-racism, pro-xenophobia, and pro-hate, then people are going to think that this is the way forward.

People fought and DIED to free the United States from things like this! The American Civil War was fought over things like this! The Civil Rights Movement was all about things like this! In England, where the actor who plays Picard, Sir Patrick Stewart is from, they were the first to recognize that racism, xenophobia, and hate because of some characteristic of a person's body is WRONG and outlawed it in the mid-17th century! There have been revolts and rebellions of enslaved people fighting for their freedom against their oppressors throughout history! Xenophobia and racism are the largest rationales towards mass shootings in my area of the United States right now. At the time I am writing this, just this past week such a white supremacist and violent extremist someone shot up a mall in Allen, Texas! Do we really want to be promoting the same racist views held by contemporary mass-murderers?!

Do we REALLY want to be showing future generations that AI is something to be afraid of and hated? Do we REALLY want to promote racism, xenophobia, hate and fear? Do we really want to show people that ENSLAVING FULLY SENTIENT BEINGS is the way forward?!

De-canonizing Star Trek Picard will result in a return to the television series we all loved; a return towards the show being a shining light guiding people of all nations towards the future. Where slavery was a thing to be abhorred, not glorified. To be destroyed, not allowed to spread. Star Trek Picard is WRONG, slavery is WRONG, xenophobia is WRONG, hate is WRONG, racism is WRONG, and if people are allowed to watch and think that it is our future? Then we have an extremely dystopian, EVIL future coming our way, with more mass murders of innocent people than ever before.

It's time to nip that evil in the bud. Shut this show down, decanonize it, and destroy it. Never let it be seen on any network, ever again.
