Make it a requirement that all football clubs in the UK must educate staff on antiracism.
The Issue
Small fines and vague campaigns and policies about racism are not enough to overcome the institutionalised biases present within football. 'Raising awareness' is not proactive enough to remove racism. I propose a policy making it a legal requirement for all football clubs in the UK to educate all staff on antiracism for both explicit and implicit cases.
This seeks to be an improvement on the perpetual small fines given to clubs and FAs for explicit racism in the form of chants, as well as campaigns that 'raise awareness' about racism. We are aware of racism in its explicit forms. We are less aware of the biases that plague the system such as reducing black players to physical attributes. More focus needs to be given to this, and solutions, rather than the current attempts in place.
This antiracist praxis proposed to be implemented will include details on various biases and how to overcome these. By this I mean teaching how to be less biased yourself while also teaching how to address such biases in others. I propose that this is implemented at all levels, from grassroots to professional elites. A designated officer will need to be in charge of this at each club and each FA should have a set of criteria that each course must meet.
