The purpose of this petition is to gauge what interest, and demand there is, from DC fans, to persuade DC Studios to make a live action DCU film, set under their Elseworlds' banner, based on Flashpoint Batman, with Jeffery Dean Morgan as Thomas Wayne Batman, and Lauren Cohan as Martha Wayne Joker.

In October 2022, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, appointed James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-chairpersons and CEOs of DC Films, which was rebranded as DC Studios. On 31 January 2023, James Gunn announced their Chapter One slate of new DCU films, and stated anything set outside of the main DCU continuity, would come under the Elseworlds banner; much like in the comics, if not designated an Earth in the DC Multiverse.

Why these actors, and this story?

DC fans have been clamouring to see a live action interpretation of this story since seeing Jeffery Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan portray Thomas and Martha Wayne in the intro of Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice in 2016. While there have been rumours over the years that the DCEU would be heading in the direction of adapting Flashpoint, with interest from both Morgan and Cohan to reprise their roles, this has not happened. 

On 13 February 2023, the trailer for The Flash was released, which reveals that parts of Geoff Johns' story has been used in the upcoming film, but not these characters. In the 2013 DC Animated Movie Universe film, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, we are shown additions from the Flashpoint tie-ins.

This petition is proposing DC Studios make a live action adaptation, DCU Elseworlds film based on the Batman tie-in, Flashpoint: Batman Knight of Vengeance, originally written by Brian Azzarello; with Jeffery Dean Morgan as Thomas Wayne Batman, and Lauren Cohan as Martha Wayne Joker.

The film could act as a standalone story, as it doesn't necessarily need to be tied to Flashpoint, at least at first. But if profitable, and if sequels were deemed to be marketable, the need for that connection would likely increase. 

Note from the fans

As DC Fans we want DC to be successful, and we feel like there have been a lot of missed opportunities in the film franchise over the years, i.e., Batman Beyond; Man of Steel 2, and now, the lack of a conclusion of the DCEU with Zack Snyder's (and CO)'s five-film JL/Darkseid War story arc. I just want to add that leaving cliffhangers, and unfinished stories, especially in this medium, just hurts the brand, more than it does in the comics. Please don't let this be another missed opportunity. 

The fandom

Seriously, where do you start, and what do you say? Some people/fans are just idiots sometimes, and social media just amplifies it. Full disclosure, I am a fan of the DCEU, and would like to see it concluded properly with the Batfleck film, and ZSJL2 and ZSJL3. But, I'm not the type of fan to demand cancelling, firings, or falsifying reviews, nor do I condone it. It's unfortunate, but what can you do? You cannot control people on the internet, and you cannot control people who don't support something, and who want to derail a campaign. It's unfortunate that a few toxic people online can do so much damage, and it's even more unfortunate that others tarnish all supporters of a campaign with the same 'toxic' brush. I just want to add, while I'm not denying, nor is it my intention to downplay that there are toxic individuals in the DC Fandom, specifically in regards to the #RestoreTheSynderVerse campaign; what I would like to add is that the fans of Man of Steel (2013), and BVS (2016), as well as any DCEU films deemed to be in the, now dubbed, 'Snyderverse,' weren't the fans being toxic online before, during, or after these films' releases, which still carries on to this day unfortunately, in the form of online bullying. I just wanted to acknowledge this in this fan petition, and while I'll continue to support the campaign for the conclusion of Zack Snyder's (and CO)'s five-film JL story; I also want to wish James Gunn good luck with the DCU. I hope he does something great for DC, and its character, and am hoping to be surprised. 

Number of signatures:

This is my second fan petition, so unsure we these. Goal, obviously would be as many signatures as possible, where WBD, and DC Studios takes notice. I believe for this petition to be successful, DC fans will need to prove to Warner Bros. Discovery, and DC Studios that there is a demand, so a benefit-cost ratio (BCR) can be done. Let's give it a go though. :)

The goal of this petition is not to stir up DC fans personal opinions, or discussions on whether they liked the DCEU, or disliked it. I have only written DCEU here, because I know detractor of this petition/campaign will focus on this connection. If you would like to show support in regards to this campaign, please sign the petition. If you don't, then please move on. This petition isn’t an outlet for your personal opinions, and just feeds the unfortunate toxic side the DC fandom suffers from on social media, as do other fandoms.

I want to acknowledge that there are, obviously, far more important issues in the world; causes to care about; and petitions to sign, than this fan petition. Personally, I do what I can to support the fight against those ‘real’ problems and causes we face globally.
