Raising animals for food produces 65% of the world's nitrous oxide emissions which has a global warming impact 296 times greater than carbon dioxide. Poor handling of manure and fertilizers can degrade local water resources. Unsustainable farming and feed production can lead to the loss of ecologically important areas, such as prairies, wetlands, and forests, and more.
