After it was revealed that work on the next Aquaman sequel had officially commenced, supporters of Johnny Depp relaunched a new Twitter campaign against Amber Heard.
Director James Wan revealed on Monday that production for Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom has begun, 18 months ahead of its December 2022 release date. Wan, who also helmed 2018’s Aquaman, uploaded a photograph of a clapperboard in an ice cave on Instagram with the phrase “day one.”
Instantly, the hashtag #JusticeforJohnnyDepp began trending on Twitter, as Johnny Depp fans voiced their displeasure that Heard is still potentially involved with the project.
There remains doubt among the Twitterverse about the extent of Heard's involvement, however, since she hasn't posted anything on social media about filming. For Aquaman, she posted behind the scenes stuff practically every other day. This time around, nothing.
She's posted plenty from London, with her walking around, visiting restaurants and practicing her abysmal British wannabe accent, but nothing about filming. So some detractors wonder if she's really even involved at all.
But let's assume for the sake of conversation that she is. there are a LOT of people that aren't happy about it. Almost 2 million that I could point at right here on this petition, and there are thousands more out there. Maybe millions. We'll have to wait until December 2022 to find out the extent of Heard's involvement
In the meantime, there's still the matter of Johnny Depp's defamation suit. It remains to be seen what effect the outcome will have on AM2, and on Heard's career, such as it is.
The lawsuit will be heard in April 2022.
