Carl E. "Chucky" Thompson was not only an iconic hip hop and R&B producer who, as a member of Bad Boy Entertainments “Hitmen” produced cultural paradigm shifting albums for Mary J Blige, The Notorious BIG and Faith Evans, and produced hit songs for a who’s who of A-List artists like Nas, Mariah Carey, Brian McKnight, Ledisi, Fantasia, TLC, New Eddition and many others, he was also a champion and legend of DC’s official and beloved homegrown genre of music Gogo influencing and mentoring countless Gogo artists and musicians over multiple decades.

Chucky represented the very best of an exceptional musician and producer and the best of our city…creativity, ingenuity, multifaceted talent, love of DC culture, music and arts and fierce determination were just some of the things that made him such an amazing person. His work has directly influenced multiple generations of musicians and artists and his imprint on Washington DC is undeniable and indelible. His life and his work brought a legacy to our city in the same likeness as Marvin Gaye and Duke Ellington and he should be celebrated in a way that reflects his contributions to this city.

Renaming the street he grew up on (1st & W Street NW) and where his talent was born and cultivated to "Chucky Thompson Way"  would be one of many great ways to honor his legacy and inspire present and future artists and musicians from our area to follow their talent to its full potential and strive for excellence. He represented DC to the fullest!! He deserves his flowers!
