Release Free Realms game files.
The Issue
Free Realms was a massive multiplayer online role playing video game, developed by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) for the PC, Mac, and PlayStation 3, set in a fantasy-themed world named Sacred Grove. The game was released on April 29, 2009, for the Windows PC. The game restricted free to play up to level 20, although there was access to additional game content via a membership fee. The game allowed the player to fight, interact with other players, and more. It was closed on March 31, 2014; SOE stated that they no longer had enough resources to maintain so many servers. The game Free Realms was enjoyed by many, so when it's sunset was announced for March 31st, 2014 many players were upset. Since it's closing there have been several attempts to restore the game to a playable state, but none have succeeded yet due to the unique nature of the game. The official reason for the game's closing released by Sony Online Entertainment (now Daybreak Game Company) was that they no longer had the resources to maintain so many servers. Daybreak has also said on several occasions that they do not plan to revive any closed games. Because Free Realms is the intellectual property of Daybreak and Daybreak alone (unlike previous closed SOE games , for example Clone Wars Adventures), it means Daybreak is sitting on useless files. If Daybreak was to release the files to the current Free Realms Reconnected project leads there would be only mutual benefit. No money would be gained from the recreation without prior consent from Daybreak (no plans to make capital have been made anyways) and a server has already been set aside. The leads are more than willing to work with Daybreak to make this project a possibility.
Why should you care? There are thousands of MMOs out there, what made Free Realms special? Free Realms was essentially a sandbox game. No, not like Minecraft. Free Realms had it's own world with it's own storyline, but almost ever aspect of the game was optional. Instead of the typical MMO where you'd have to build your character based on a single class, Free Realms let you switch between classes (Jobs) that leveled up separately with the click of an arrow. Like previously stated, almost all aspects of the game were optional, so the combat classes were not the only Jobs available to level up; fleshed out metagames constructed ways for the average Free Realms player to enjoy the game while not pursuing combat. Above all were the social elements to the game. Player housing was a large deal with hundreds of items to decorate homes or blank lots and character customization allowed players to express their style. It's really hard to put into words how much was possible in game. Children and adults alike spent countless hours in the world of Sacred Grove.
