HAIR PROFESSIONALS of TENNESSEE! STOP THE BILL TO DE-REGULATE NATURAL HAIR STYLING!
The Issue
Tennessee Cosmetologists, Barbers, Beauty Industry Professionals and all those who care about the beauty industry, the legality and safety of the industry and those who care about the health and safety of each and every client that we touch as such professionals WE NEED YOUR HELP! There is a bill that is currently being passed here in Tennessee that will de-regulate natural hair styling (braiding, styling, extensions, hair styling not including cutting, coloring or perming) are included in this bill. The bill states that a 16 hour (2 day) course will be the only instruction/education that anyone will need to obtain to legally be allowed to perform these services and charge for them. No inspection, no 300 hours of school, no state board testing, etc will be required which are the current requirements to obtain a Natural Hair Stylist license. The bill has passed the first round by the legislature because no one has understood the importance of it. They saw that there was a "braiding bill" on the agenda and thought it wasn't important and passed it without hesitation to get to "more important" matters. The next thing on the agenda is the current cosmetology and barber regulations. The Beacon Center of TN believes that they should help to deregulate our industry so that it's easier for others to enter the field without doing what the rest of us have done and understand is needed and that is proper education and licensing to protect the public! We HAVE TO LET OUR REPRESENTATIVES HEAR OUR VOICES THAT WE DON'T WANT THIS BILL PASSED! This is just the beginning!!!! Our industry is being completely disrespected by government officials that are wanting to disregard your professional education and licensing while putting the health and safety of clients at risk.
