Stop the 14% tax to be assessed on Shore Rentals

Stop the 14% tax to be assessed on Shore Rentals
The Issue
TB-81 imposes NJ sales use tax and occupancy tax on transient rentals. In the Wildwoods, rental income will now be assessed a state sales use tax of 6.625%, a state occupancy fee of 3.15%, which when combined with the existing municipal rate of 3.85% for the Wildwoods, brings the total tax rate on shore rentals to 13.625%. This rate applies to ALL rental income received, not just through online sites such as VRBO or Airbnb, EXCEPT when a realtor "hands over the keys". This legislation appears to have been crafted to benefit realtors and hotels who have been losing ground to the online services. The unexpected and sizable hit to private property owners and their customers is unfair. This legislation should have been imposed in a gradual fashion, with a longer period before being mandated, so owners could adjust to the change. This should be REPEALED.
