Daw Khin Kyi Foundation: Support Rohingya refugees

On October 5, 2018, the Sedona Hotel in Yangon will host a gala fundraiser for the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation, founded by Aung San Suu Kyi, to benefit "underprivileged communities in Myanmar". The Rohingya, who are from Myanmar and who have mostly been forced from the country by military violence, are the population that would benefit most from the recognition and the support of the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation.

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi has defended military violence against the Rohingya for years, and last month, the UN said she had "contributed to the commission of atrocity crimes". Her supporters around the world want to see the once-respected democracy activist stand up for Myanmar's most abused population. Supporting them through the foundation named after her mother would be an easy yet meaningful gesture.

The invitation to the upcoming gala says the funds it raises will go to "worthy causes". If the foundation is looking for a more specific cause, the cause of the stateless Rohingya, who have endured a genocide, is an obvious choice.
