We the undersigned parents and concerned citizens of the Davis School District do nearby sign our names in protest of the decision that has been made to put these children, their friends, and their family members at greater risk of illness, life long complications, and potential death from the COVID-19 virus. The decision made by the Davis School District on Tuesday September 15th, 2020 to do away with the hybrid school schedule of attending two days in school and three days at home via technology each week and replacing it with a four day in school and one day at home via technology schedule is unacceptable. This schedule makes the recommended social distancing an impossibility and adds greater risk of exposure to everyone involved. If there is an outbreak with this schedule then the entire school will have been exposed as opposed to only half. Neither option is truly acceptable, especially since there is a potential two week period before symptoms are even show making for a greater degree of spreading, but given our options we would rather take the lesser risk. We believe that these children’s health and safety outweighs our own desires for personal time. We also accept the responsibility as parents/guardians to be there for our children and to do everything in our power to aid them in success. We recognize this may mean sacrifice on our part, but these children deserve that level of devotion and care in their lives. We will not sit by and place the care of our own children onto others. A child’s well being is the primary responsibility of their parent/guardian and we accept that responsibility. We therefore sign this document attesting to our utter disapproval of the current direction that has been chosen for us and not by us. We do not accept it and demand that these children’s health and safety be put above all else.
