Every college student knows the challenges of going through college and that graduation is the overall end goal. A day of celebration for all students who worked HARD over the previous years. Not only is it for students, it’s for family and friends to celebrate the “mark the end of one period of our lives and the beginning of the next” (David Lassner via our commencement graduation email). Every student has a different reason to want to celebrate one of the greatest days of our careers. UH Manoa students have been through hurricanes, a false nuke threat, and so much more within our own colleges. We deserve recognition, just like those before us. 

UH Manoa has decided to CANCEL the spring 2020 commencement. Understanding the circumstances of COVID-19, UH has the right to POSTPONE the ceremony, NOT cancel it. They also offered students to walk in the FALL 2020 commencement but several students may no longer be on island / available.The world wide pandemic is a very unusual circumstance and for this UH Manoa needs to gather their resources to provide an uncommon solution. 

This petition is move for a SUMMER 2020 commencement option if the conditions are deemed safe. David Lassner needs to hear the students opinions before making a decision that large.
