End Age Discrimination by Hallmark Channel

End Age Discrimination by Hallmark Channel
The Issue
Hallmark Company, makers of fine cards and gifts worldwide, also has a cable television channel, "The Hallmark Channel," run by their affiliate company Crown Media. Hallmark Channel has a daily morning television show called "Home & Family," which is a family-friendly, segment-governed, variety show of nice-quality, money-saving, DIY (do-it-yourself) products and information.
Recently, Home & Family has come under fire due to its dismissal of their popular, talented host, Cristina Ferrare, age 66 years old. She was replaced by Debbie Matenopoulos, age 41. Cristina stole the hearts of individuals worldwide, so fans were aghast to hear that - after years of exemplary service and showmanship, always promoting, daily, the Hallmark name in a positive light as a wholesome family company - she had been suddenly fired by director Woody Fraser of Woody Fraser Productions. The reason? He said she was "too old and he felt they should go in a new direction."
Woody Fraser is no stranger to discriminating on the aged employees at The Hallmark Channel, as just last winter 2015, he fired executive director Robert Levy, age 64, and replaced him with a man in his 30's. Robert states that Woody harrassed him about his age, used snide, age-related comments, and gave him debasing age-related "gifts." Robert has filed suit in Superior Court in Los Angeles, California, against Woody Fraser Productions and Crown Media. Robert was told the same reason for his dismissal as Cristina, "you're too old and we want to go in a different direction."
Apparently Woody Fraser views this "new direction" comment as a discrimination loophole, and thinks Hollywood is above the law. Woody has created a trail that reaks of unscrupulous Hollywood basement tactics, and is not representative of a Heartland generational family card company, which is still run by its originating family members, and which seeks to promote family values.
The fans of Home & Family disagree with Woody Fraser, and DO NOT like the direction the show is going. The show's "tone" has become noticeably less "cozy," without Robert at the helm, and the camaraderie is almost stagnant without Cristina. Cristina was a delight to see every day, and Robert knew what he was doing; it was reflected in the show.
Concerned citizens will not accept age discrimination by Hallmark in any of its company practices. We will not tolerate the way Woody Fraser treated Robert Levy and Cristina Ferrare. We are asking:
1. That Hallmark Company remove Woody Fraser Productions and Woody Fraser Enterprises as their production company, and force Crown Media to select a production company more suited to family values- one that values viewers over 50 years old, not simply its younger demographic.
2. That Hallmark Company terminate any executive at Crown Media who had anything to do with the firing of the above named employees, or upon further scrutiny, the firing of ANY employee due to age discrimination but not named in this petition.
3. a) That Hallmark Company publicly denounce age discrimination in any form and
b) Offer reinstatement to BOTH Robert Levy and Cristina Ferrare to their original, former positions at Home & Family, OR...
c) Terminate the show and create a new show that includes Cristina as host, and Robert as director. (Cristina is talented enough to have her own show.)
4. a) Conduct a complete employee audit of anyone fired by Woody Fraser and/or Crown Media who was over the age of 40 years at time of termination, and
b) Offer reinstatement to each terminated employee.
We believe that Hallmark Corporate may be unaware of the debasing tactics their entertainment channel is exhibiting, therefore we ask that they take formal steps to resolve this problem, and reinstate the Hallmark name to its former honor.
