Review Slap on Wrist Sentence

Review Slap on Wrist Sentence
The Issue
The Facts:
Cwmbran Youth Court heard the boy, 12, pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm, criminal damage, attempted robbery and three counts of assault by beating. He was given an intensive referral order for 10 months and his father will have to pay £500 in damages. The court heard the child punched a teenage boy in the face, chipping his tooth and leaving him "scared to leave his house". He also attacked a woman in her seventies as she waited for a bus at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, where her husband had just been diagnosed with cancer.
We at Forge Wales believe that this type of delinquency should not be encouraged with a judgement that equates to a slap on the wrist. The principle of the Rule of Law demands that there not be a situation where there is one rule for some, and another for others. This young man assaulted a seventy year old woman in an unprovoked attack and is clearly a risk to wider society.
In light of this, we at Forge Wales call for a review of the punishment in light of the numerous serious infractions.
