Article 1 of the Guyana Constitution reads, inter alia, "Guyana is an indivisible, secular, democratic sovereign state..."

On January 3rd, 2020, the Ministry of Public Health made a declaration that reads, inter alia, "We declare the Lordship of Jesus Christ over the health sector, and that in this year, 2020, we will fear God and obey his commandments."

Not only is the Ministry's statement insensitive and backward, but it is also inciteful and propagates race and hate at an ominous time in Guyana's history.

We demand that the President of Guyana distance himself from this statement and that the Minister of Public Health issue an immediate, public and unreserved apology to the Guyanese people.
