President Angel: Enact the Clark Reproductive Bill of Rights

NARAL Pro-Choice Clark University started this petition to David Angel and

For a school that prides itself on being at the forefront of issues ("Challenge Convention. Change Our World."), Clark's failure to provide its students with access to very basic sexual health resources represents an ethical divide between the University's stated values and its actions.

For the past year Clark NARAL Pro-Choice has been working to identify gaps in access to reproductive and sexual health care at Clark as well as broader issues of equity and accessibility for students. Based on our research and meetings with Counseling Services, Health Services, CAVE (Clark Anti-Violence Education) staff, and various administrators we created the Clark Reproductive Bill of Rights, which, if implemented, we believe would increase the safety and well-being of Clark students.

Please sign onto the Reproductive Bill of Rights to let President David Angel know that the Clark Community demands administrative action to fill these gaps. These are not radical requests. They represent minimal changes that would bring Clark in line with its peers.

THE CLARK REPRODUCTIVE BILL OF RIGHTS

  1. Free condoms should be available in residence halls, and the University Center at any time of day. Condoms and dental dams should also be available for free at Health Services during their hours of operation.
(We recommend that Clark consider establishing an alternate funding source for the student group Choices so that they are not subject to an unreliable funding source and could expand their services into residence halls.)
  2. Long term anti-violence and consent education should be mandatory and should continue after students' first year. Emphasis must be placed on identifying and targeting programming for Clark communities where sexual assault is especially prevalent.
  3. Consistent gender-neutral language should be incorporated into the language of all of Clark’s written policies.
  4. Gender-neutral bathrooms should be available in every single building on campus and should be clearly marked.
  5. A full-time CAVE staff member to oversee and expand CAVE’s services on campus. If CAVE is no longer in existence, there should be a similar full-time resource available to expand services on campus.
  6. One easily accessible web page should exist on Clark’s website where data on sexual assault (both from CAVE and University Police), information on judicial procedures, the details of Clark’s sexual assault policy and adjudication procedures, and support and resources for survivors, are consolidated in a comprehensive way.
  7. Plan B should be available for free at Clark Health Services.
  8. If Choices should cease to exist, there should be a sustainable Clark service that would readily provide these services.
  9. We would like to work with the administration on curating a distributable resource that includes comprehensive information about reproductive resources available to Clark students.
