Tesco Support your Community and Say No to McDonald's

This petition made change with 427 supporters!

Tesco show us you do indeed support your local community and that your values mean something, be ‘the champion for your customers’ and revoke your agreement with McDonalds now.

Tesco you say you ‘are proud to support your local community’ and that your business was built with a simple mission ‘To be the champion for customers, helping them to enjoy a better quality of life and an easier way of living’.

Yet you have agreed that McDonalds can use part of the car park at your East Didsbury store and apply for planning permission to build a two story Restaurant / two lane Drive Thru.

The community you are so proud to be part of is strongly opposed to this plan, with grave concerns about:

  • increased traffic at highly congested junction, putting pedestrian safety at risk,
  • close proximity of the plan to two major high schools with over 3000 pupils and four primary schools, giving access to unhealthy food options and;
  • Increased litter, noise, vermin and anti social behaviour.

Nearly 1200 people have already objected to the planning application including all local Councillors, Head Teachers from all nearby schools, local businesses including Stage Coach and Jeff Smith Labour MP.

The Campaign Group ‘East Didsbury Not Lovin It’ already has over 1300 members who passionately oppose the plan.

All these people are part of your local community and many your loyal customers.

In response to our letters, you state ‘We are not leading this process’. We your community say you cannot pretend this is nothing to do with you – you started this process by agreeing to lease the land and you can stop it.

You can as your values state ‘make a big difference to the issues customers, colleagues, communities and wider society care about’.

You can stand by your community and your own core purpose and values and show that actions have more substance than sound bites.

You can help your community to ‘enjoy a better quality of life and an easier way of living’. Show your community and your customers that you care about them and revoke your agreement with McDonalds now.
