Tesco, please stop using Palm Oil in your products!!!
The Issue
I was horrified to read an article about the impact deforestation in Indonesia, due to the Palm Oil industry, is having on wildlife in the region - in particular The Sumatran Orangutan. For more information click on the following link.:
Being a long-term (23 years) Vegetarian and recently turned Vegan, I wanted to do the right thing by boycotting products containing Palm Oil. So, I took myself off to Tesco and started inspecting ingredients - not just to see if they were Vegan friendly, but also to check for Palm Oil. I am afraid it was BAD news - most breads contained Palm Oil, many peanut butter brands, even some sweets! The situation is dire, way beyond my expectations.... this crap is being pumped into a huge range of food products, on a mass scale!
Animal and wildlife lovers need to put pressure on big companies, such as Tesco, to lead the way in the fight to ensure alternatives and/or only sustainable Palm Oil finds its way into our food!
The Sumatran Orangutan is a critically endangered species, and with less than 7,000 of these magnificent animals left in the wild experts estimate they will be the first of the great apes to become extinct. This would be a true tragedy - caused by the greed and selfishness of corporations, and the ignorance of consumers!
Extinction is preventable, but only if deforestation for Palm Oil plantations stops and a more sustainable and wild-life friendly solution is introduced for ALL Palm Oil production.
Please sign this petition to put pressure on Dave Lewis, Tesco CEO, to ban unethically sourced Palm Oil in all its own brand products, thus supporting the conservation of the Sumatran Orangutan and many other unique and precious species that live in the region!
Thank you!
